The comparative analysis of yield, chemical and structural composition of winter crops in the steppe zone of the South Urals has been conducted. The biggest part of green crop yield was represented by footstalks during all vegetative stages. At the initial stage triticale exceeds other crops by green forage. Triticale had better ratio of structural parts for feeding purposes during all development stages. Results of research showed that dynamics of chemical composition in winter crops was different that was clearly seen by the dry matter content. Regularities of dry matter increase together with passing vegetative stages of plants were established. Among the compared crops the stage of heading was characterized by the biggest content of crude protein in dry matter. Stage of seed formation was characterized by the biggest content of crude fiber in dry matter of rye, triticale and wheat. Triticale at the stage of stalk-shooting generally yields to rye and wheat by foliage masses of footstalk, leaves and generative part, but exceeds them at heading and seed formatting stages. All winter crops under study had regularity of dry matter increase by passing vegetative stages, however this index of triticale at heading stage and seed-formation had more optimal ration.
